Meetings
Dear colleagues,
Very few Americans know that the US healthcare system is mostly publicly funded, meaning, paid for by our tax dollar contributions - 64% ! Only 5 % of US insured population do not receive government subsidy either directly or indirectly through a tax benefit. Decades of incremental health reforms with mandated tax subsidized coverage for the uninsured and special population groups, are in reality, subsidies for the insurance companies, siphoning off dollars for direct care, ensuring profits for share holders, enormous CEO salaries, and bureaucratic administrative boondoggles. Even though the profiteers on Wall Street have been bailed out, we can still stop the chronic bailout of the for-profit insurance industry in our healthcare system. It is time to demand bailout of the ordinary American’s healthcare - time for single payer federal government intervention.
We need each one of you to do whatever you can to educate the public about how much each of us, including the unisnsured, are already contributing large sums of our tax dollars indirectly to the insurance industry for healthcare. Once all of us understand the current funding of US health care system, and how little care we get in return, even skeptics would see that of all reform proposals, the single payer system - embodied in HR676 - is the only true universal system - accessible, affordable, quality health care for all, for life.

Two years later, a serious article with almost the same title, about how much we pay for so little healthcare, appeared in the May/June 2008 Issue of the prestigious Dollars and Sense: The Magazine of Economic Justice. He is a weekly columnist for the Conway Daily Sun, writing articles with wit and humor. He is published in other papers, as well.
